Being Mr Gay Europe means anything from recording important public messages to doing hot photo sessions, voluntary work for worthy causes and doing interviews with the media. But it can also be a lot of fun – just look at this “backstage” Christmas video – the Christmas is after all a family holiday and one can be excused for being a little childish – not?

For those of us who don’t have English as our mother tongue it is always a bit fascinating to find out that the word “gay” formerly was often used in the meaning of “happy” and “joyful”. How can anyone then think or consider “gay” or “being gay” something negative?

And if you take a closer look in a dictionary you will also find the word “gay” is synonym with cheerful, sunny, jocund, jolly, jovial, mirthful, indulgent, colourful, joyful and merry. So when you say Merry Christmas, you also say Gay Christmas.

Ok, so we don’t know what our English teacher will say to this theory or – maybe even worse – the priests of the Christian church but we don’t really mind – we hope you all have a gay, merry, joyful and jolly mirthful Christmas!
