Last time Belgium took part in MGE was in 2009. Next year they are back in the game!
Ivan Denis and Bram Bierkens are the new national producers representing Belgium in Mr Gay Europe and Mr Gay World. They are the one that will go scouting for the next person representing Belgium in MGE and MGW.
Due to juridical technicalities the producers are not in the position to name their competition “Mr Gay Belgium” and have instead decided to run the competition under the name “Mr Gay Flanders”. As part of the agreement with the Mr Gay Europe organization the producers have guaranteed that the competition will be open to delegates from all over the country.
The Mr Gay Flanders competition will follow the same policy and philosophy as that of Mr Gay Europe regarding a final with several delegates, a competent jury and the judging is to be based on both the looks and the personality of the delegates. The delegates will also be evaluated based on their involvement in the fight for gay rights and social and political engagement in the gay community.
The first final in Mr Gay Flanders will take 28 June and delegates from Belgium can already now start to sign on. As hosting country for Mr Gay World 2013 the winner of Mr Gay Flanders is guaranteed a place in the European delegation to Mr Gay World representing Belgium as long as he completes Mr Gay Europe in Prague 26 – 30 July next summer.
“Ivan and Bram come with the best recommendations and they already worked with this kind of events for the last five years. I trust that Belgium once again will send strong and qualified delegates. The new delegate will have to fill the shoes of guys like Cédric, Lionel, Jens and Bart, all great guys that represented their country in an impressive way,” MGE president Tore Aasheim comments.
