A decision has been made… ROME! And thousands of crazy Italians cheered. This is going to be great!

After the success of Mr. Gay Europe in Romania this year I truly meant what I said on stage in Poiana Brasov – it had been the best Mr. Gay Europe ever!

We were not in a big capital in a gay trendy part of Europe but the club was packed, the audience was enthusiastic and we got ourselves a fabulous winner and title holder! The local producers did an excellent job, the local authorities and the police (this was not gay friendly territory!) was great and the scenery of Romania and Transylvania is magical. The attention and the response that we got from the media and the public also made us feel that we made a difference.

Thanks to a very persistent and determined Italian title holder and talented and wholehearted people in the gay community in Rome, next year Mr. Gay Europe is going to Italy. We are truly honoured and proud to be invited to Rome and we are looking forward to go there next summer.

This August I and my MGE team went to the Italian capital to get to know the gay community and our future hosts. I tell you, Rome was steaming hot, and that was not only because the temperature rose above 35 degrees!

The visit to Gay Village was an eye-opener; it was like an amusement park for gays. Thousands of happy and proud gay and lesbians, two main stages, ass-kicking DJS, a whole street of restaurants and bars everywhere, stands with tarot readers, computer games, karaoke (!) and fancy photo sessions, cool cars on display, oh yes – Mr. Gay Europe 2012 is going to fit perfectly into this!

Delegates from all over Europe have already started to sign on and our artistic director has had a few nervous breakdowns already (as he always has when making magic) – the show will have to be the best ever! It is a whole year till Mr. Gay Europe 2012, but as the old Romans used to say – all roads lead to Rome and Gay Village!

Tore Aasheim,
President of Mr. Gay Europe
